Some people, even when they are still quite young, are prone to develop a problem that causes them much worry and this problem is nothing other than thyroid related hair loss. The most obvious reason why a person might suffer from hair loss is changes in their hormones while another reason is eating bad foods. In addition, hair loss can also be caused because of being under a lot of physical or even mental stress.
The main function of this gland is to produce sufficient hormones that help to keep a person's metabolism functioning properly. In addition, these hormones also aid in keeping vital body organs functioning properly.
This gland works along with the hypothalamus as well as the pituitary gland with the former being responsible for sending signals to the pituitary gland through hormones known as TRH or thyrotropin releasing hormones. This causes the pituitary glands to release TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone that are then sent to the gland in question.
When these hormones reach the gland some amount of T3 and T4 hormones are released that get into the bloodstream and will ensure proper metabolism of the person's heart and liver as well as muscles and other important organs. It is up to the pituitary gland to regulate the hormone levels in the person's blood and in addition the pituitary glands also help control the decrease or increase in the TSH levels.
On the other hand when the level of T4 and TSH are above normal, it causes a condition called hyperthyroidism to develop. When this happens the best treatment is to undergo surgery to remove the offending part of the gland; another solution is to insert radioactive iodine which however is more of means to test the functioning of the gland rather than treating it.
Both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can exist and remain undetected for many years. However, by becoming aware of their symptoms it is possible to identify a certain pattern that should then help you suspect that you have a problem.
It also helps to consult a doctor to seek advice regarding which medications are safe for you. The sooner you seek medical help the better it is. So, when you first notice that hair has begun to fall from your head you must get yourself checked up by a qualified doctor.
If you procrastinate and delay in seeking advice you risk worsening of the condition and that will make it harder to find effective treatment options later on. Though hair loss is not a serious condition, it can, if not controlled, easily turn into one and so you should not hesitate in seeking proper medical advice to help you start effective treatment as early as is possible.
Another problem with the thyroid gland is a condition called thyroiditis in which the immune system starts to attack the gland and this can cause over or under production of vital hormones. Such a condition can however be treated with the use of certain medication.
