The Hidden Gem of Samsung DVD Players

You may recall that I'm a big fan of Samsung televisions. Well, my positive experience with those models made me decide to check out their Samsung DVD Players when it came time to purchase a new one for my family's home theater system.

Upscaling Technology

As you probably already know, televisions are being changed over to HDTV versions in the United States due to the large switch from analog. Anyway, one of the effects of that alteration is that regular DVDs just aren't going to look as astonishing as usual HDTV programming on your TV.

At the present you might upgrade to a Blu-Ray player (Samsung sells one for almost $200 via Amazon) but that might require converting your entire DVD set too.

A better choice is an upscaling or upconverting DVD player. Some Samsung DVD Players feature this technology. Essentially, what it does is take your standard DVDs and enhance the picture quality so they seem as if they are in real high definition. So, you will become cleaner, crisper, more vibrant images. The DVDs will actually seem almost theater quality, especially if you have a quite big screen.

The biggest advantage of the technology clearly is that you are able to get the imposing picture quality you want without having to invest in a new format for your movies. Whereas Samsung DVD players featuring this technology are a bit more pricey than ones that do not, they are less than half than half the price of the Blu-Ray players.

What to Look For

When you're going to be acquiring one of the upscaling Samsung DVD players, make certain you keep an eye on the maximum resolution possible but also make certain it assists the resolution of your available HDTV.

Most of the models do work with 1080p resolution but if your television is 1080i or 720p, you're going to need a model that convert to those resolutions as well.

Prices

We cannot stop a discussion of Samsung DVD players without discussing about their prices. Most of the upscaling types cost between $75 and $90. As mentioned earlier, a Blu-Ray player from Samsung will set you back almost $200 at Amazon. In comparison, you can purchase Samsung DVD players without the upscaling feature for under $50 at JR.
