People do not buy a new kitchen very often so that means there are several areas where you can make mistakes. Kitchens are a big part of your home so do not rush out and begin by things haphazardly. You will have to live with these decisions for quite some time, therefore make them after careful consideration.
When you decide it is time to purchase your new kitchen you should try to stick with a company that is local and has a good reputation. They will offer you better service and value for the dollar. Do not be enticed by large direct sales companies most of their merchandise is cheap and second rate. These companies spend the majority of their overhead on training sales staff and operating expenses. Sales people often times make huge commissions on their sales and are taught every trick in the book to get your hard earned money. The favorite ploy they use is to tell you that this is a onetime deal that will not be available tomorrow. The fact is if you pass on the ?great? deal, the sales manager will be calling you the very next day with an even better deal. If you give in your results are liable to be a poorly designed and cheap made kitchen that you will pay a lot of money for.
The next step is to find a reputable contractor to install your kitchen; new kitchens can be tricky so find someone skilled in this area. Using a general contractor is fine if you know without a doubt that they know what they are doing. For instance, you would not want to use a roofing expert to design and install your kitchen unless they also have experience with kitchens. If you are not careful you will wind up with a botched job, think about it you would not ask your gardner to perform your surgery would you?
Check references and actually go see the work they have done. Beware however that many contractors will only give you access to the customers that were perfectly happy. They could have done 50 kitchens and give you only the two names of people who were satisfied. Check at least three previous jobs to get a feel for the quality of a contractors work.
If you are having trouble getting a floor plan down there are many retailers who will take your kitchen dimensions and give you a three-dimensional rendering. This will give you a visual aid to choosing cabinets, appliances and flooring.
At some point during the negotiations, you should ask for a discount. Most generally there is always room for improvement on price. A salesman will never lead out with his best price and if on the off chance they do, a discount will be out of the question, of course! However, that is a very rare incidence and besides it never hurts to ask.
Granite is the most sought after material for counters and worktops, it is also one of the most expensive. Companies have started bringing in granite from the Far East however, quality is often lacking. When compared to laminate this cheaper granite can still be the better material just be sure you know what you are buying. You will find that carcases vary and the small independent contractor will have access to the best, an 18mm rigid. They will also offer you around 25 finishes that will match your doors. Imagine a light oak carcase complimented by a light oak door. Big companies will not offer this; they will instead have a white or beige carcase with painted ends to match the door. This leaves the leading edge not matching the doors, which does not look as good.
Remember too that you will have to have a qualified technician doing all of the electric and plumbing. In most areas, it is illegal for an uncertified person to work with gas or electric. If at any point, you wish to sell the home there will be certification required and it can be very expensive. The individual fitting your new kitchen should have this sorted out for you in advance.
Be very careful when buying appliances and sink/taps online for your new kitchen. Some companies sell 'Frank' sinks it should be 'Franke'. Some taps look very good but are from the Far East and fall a part a very quickly. If it looks too good to be true it probably is. Always go for known brands spelt correctly!
To insure that you do not forget anything you should make a list of all the amenities you want in your new kitchen. Consider every appliance and decide what size, type and color you are interested in. Are you looking for tall refrigerators or a built in? The same applies to stoves, ovens and dishwashers. You may want your dishwasher in plain sight or hidden for instance. All these things you must take into consideration before you get started.
To save money the floor tiles are normally fitted after the new kitchen. You will want to be sure you allow for the thickness of the cement and tile so you will not have to cut the plinth at the conclusion of the job. The tiles are then able to be placed just under the plinth.
