If your dog is very temperamental, then you need the SDF-100 to protect it and your guests. It doesn't matter if your dog is hard to train since the SDF-100 has shown results with the most stubborn of dogs.
How the System Works
The system works by emitting radio waves from the transmitter to the far end of the boundaries that you decide to set for your dog. The dog is then trained to learn where the boundaries are through the use of training flags that will give the animal a visual guide. If the dog approaches the invisible fence, then its collar will emit a warning sound indicating that the animal is too close to it.
If the dog disregards the warning sound and tries to cross the boundaries, the collar it wears will deliver static shocks in increasing intensity in order to train it to stay within the area assigned to the animal.
The system provides a collar that is resistant to water and can be worn in any type of weather: it works with a 9 volt battery that has to be replaced about every 9 months. The Sportdog's SDF-100 includes a DVD that will teach you how to use the system to train your dog and keep it inside your house.
Other Features
For extra safety, the Sportdog's in ground fence has a feature called anti-linger, which prevents your dog from escaping its assigned area even after the batteries are out of power. Also, the level of punishment administered to the dog can be selected from a range of intensities, so you can administer it according to how temperamental your dog is. Other features that are worth mentioning are the indicator of battery level and the collar that can be adjusted to almost any size of dog's neck.
The collar that comes with the SDF-100 can be used on dogs that weight at least 4 kilograms and a half. It's not recommended for small breeds. The SDF-100 set includes 1000 feet of boundary wire and 100 training flags. In addition, you can buy additional collars if you have more than one dog.
If you have a dog that has a strong character, then you need the SDF-100. The system gives correction to dogs in doses that match the animal's temperament. You can buy extra wire to give the Sportdog's SDF-100 a larger area of coverage.
