Occurrence And Treatment For Prolapsed Hemorrhoids

There are four different stages for prolapsed hemorrhoids. The first stage is when the hemorrhoid has not prolapsed. The second stage is when the hemorrhoid prolapsed upon a bowel movement but reduces naturally; stage three is when the hemorrhoid prolapsed upon a bowel movement and must be manually reduced. The fourth stage is when the prolapsed hemorrhoid cannot be manually reduced.

Prolapsed hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids that hand outside of the anus. It is not understood what causes this type of hemorrhoids but it is though that an individual's lifestyle and stress play an important role. You can make lifestyle changes that can decrease your chance of acquiring hemorrhoids. This is a great preventative measure even if you have suffered from hemorrhoids in the past.

In most cases prolapsed hemorrhoids will need treatment, as this kind of hemorrhoid is considered severe. To avoid surgery you should have your hemorrhoids looked at as soon as possible and prevent them from reaching stage three or four. Most treatments used for stage one and two hemorrhoids are non-surgical and quite easy to do. Many times it is possible to get the hemorrhoids to go away naturally. However if your hemorrhoids have become prolapsed then you will need medical treatment.

Dilation and sphinctectomy were once used to treat prolapsed hemorrhoids. These two procedures are no longer used as the nature of hemorrhoids is clearer and in many cases the patients lost their sphincter function and could not control their bowel movements. Dilation works by stretching the sphincter and anal canal to relieve the pressure associated with hemorrhoids. A sphinctectomy involves cutting the sphincter to relieve the pressure. It should be noted that neither of these two methods actually treats the hemorrhoids.

Rubber band ligation and Doppler Ligation are two popular forms of treatment. Rubber band ligation works by using a rubber band to cut of the circulation to the hemorrhoid. This in turn causes the hemorrhoids to shrink and return to normal. Doppler ligation works under the same principal except that the blood vessel that is inflamed is tied off causing the hemorrhoid to shrink back to normal. Rubber band ligation is much less expensive then Doppler ligation and just as effective.

A sphincterotomy is used to reduce the pressure applied on the sphincter from the hemorrhoid. Basically a part of the sphincter is cut to reduce pressure those this procedure again runs the risk of affecting bowel movement control. You can also have your hemorrhoids removed surgically though this can be very painful.

One of the newest techniques is the stapled hemorrhoidectomy. This is quickly being the most popular form of treatment for prolapsed hemorrhoids. Basically the hemorrhoid supporting tissue that has been stretched is stapled and decreases. This causes the hemorrhoid cushions to return back to their original position.

There are many preventative measures you can take to avoid hemorrhoids. Drinking plenty of water, avoiding stress, eating high fiber foods, exercising regularly and having the correct posture can all help to decrease your chance of having hemorrhoids. There are also many treatments that can relieve your hemorrhoids if they are in the first and second stage
