How Lighting Can Improve Your Well Being

Many people suffer from what is known as the "winter blues." How you light your house can affect your mood, for better or worse. Changing light fixtures is an ideal way to 'warm up' a house with options available that can bring a real summer-time glow to any house with the use of different colored lights.

The lighting systems of the past were simply not as bright or as efficient as today's options, so many owner's of older buildings upgrade their lighting fixtures so that they can benefit from technology and design developments.

One perfect example is the kitchen. Many kitchens of the past just had a plain and very boring ceiling light that, if still in place, most probably produces a very weak and inefficient light. Add a few lights to this room and the whole area becomes much safer and more efficient by using LED lights. LEDs have been around a long time but people are only just starting to realize how efficient they are.

Sitting rooms really benefit from smart lighting upgrades that bring light to dark areas that were previously flaws in design. You'd be surprised by how much a room can benefit from just a simple floor lamp or table lamp.

A mistake people commonly make is to make their bedroom too bright. This tends to create a harsh environment that is difficult to relax in. Dimming switches are a good idea if you need bright light occasionally but would like to be able to relax in a more romantic setting from time to time. Tiffany lamps use colored glass to uplift and relax people in the room and colored lights can be used to project soft yellows or oranges that bring a warm feeling to the room.

Kid's rooms should always be cheerful and a little brighter. You want as little clutter as possible in these rooms so you can just switch to LED lighting and use a dimmer to cut down the light at night. In older kids rooms you can add table lamps in study areas.

Some bathrooms can be really dull, especially if they haven't been renovated and are more than 30 or 40 years old. The first thing you might like to do is get rid of that dull ceiling light that was first installed in 1945. Then, look at some track lights so you can change the mood when it suits you.

Experiment with different colors and designs to make your home more cheerful. Lights do not always have to be bright. Sometimes a subtle change in hue can make a large difference to a room. The choices are endless and you can always find ways to brighten up your home and make yourself feel better with new lighting ideas.
