Faucets are available in all types and styles, whether they are for your kitchen, bathroom or garage. The first type of faucet are the chrome ones with compression valves and the other come with standard ball valves. They come in all kinds of finishes like stainless steel and painted enamel finishes. Each caters to a different type of individual. Some prefer the modern contemporary appearance while others prefer the more timeless, victorian look.
I will try to discuss in this guide the different parts of your faucet when you try to dissect them in the course of the repair. You never know when you might have an emergency in the middle of the night and when a plumber is not accessible.
Here are the fundamental parts of a faucet: a) The tail piece b) The distance connecting the tail pieces c) The mounting nut that connects the faucet to the sink d) The supply tube, in charge of supplying water to the faucet e) The shutoff valve that controls the water supply during repairs f) The aerator which mixes the water coming out from the spout with air, preventing splashes g) The control valve (there are numerous control valves which will be discussed below)
There are certain faucets with compression valves that split the hot and the cold. The only variation between compression valves and all other is that it will have a rubber washer at its base compressing against the valve, shutting off the water.
Others faucets have ball-type valves and are typically found on single handle faucets. This functions similar to car shaft with the left and right controlling the temperature while the front and back movement manipulates the water flow.
One more type of faucet are those that have cartridge type valves. They are obtainable in both single and double handle styles. Double handle cartridge type faucets work in the same way as compression valves except with the less extra pressure applied when closing the valve. Similar also with single handle cartridge faucets which resembles the ball-type valves with the exception that the flow is controlled by lifting or lowering the handle.
Those summarized above are essentially the different parts of a faucet. Other more complex faucets may have various parts but for more often than not, you will come across faucets of similar structure with the ones I have listed above. Also for more complicated faucets, you might want to call a plumber to make your job effortless.
It is important to know about the various parts of a faucet , now that you know about it, come and look at some antique brass bathroom faucets
