A child's playroom or bedroom is a great place for an area rug. The right one can add a lively playtime area for the room. It is a great alternative to expensive carpets, wallpapers or the many custom techniques used for painting. If your house is rented and your child's room has white walls, an area rug is a great choice for adding color.

With most children, a favorite character, star, or pastime is constantly changing. While it is difficult to change a wallpaper border or mural at the drop of a hat, a new themed area rug can let your child show what some of their favorite things are. Simply roll up the old one and lay down the new.

Some floorings that you will find for children's rooms feature imaginative playtime designs, including bridges, highways, letters, maps and numbers. This can be a great learning tool for your child and they can have fun at the same time. You will also find many themed rugs for sports, which are always a popular choice for a little one's room.

If your kid's room is a sterile white and hence, a bit dull for his playful and cheery nature, you can work on the room's color around the area rugs. You can also do the same for choosing his curtain or window blinds and bed sheets. Strictly adhering to one area rug is not required. With the numerous amazing designs and tempting colors, you can make use of several rugs in different colors or patterns. Be as creative, free-spirited and imaginative as your little one. You can even let him choose which area rugs to decorate his room.

For children's area rugs, it is better to choose those that have the advantage of practicality. Instead of having thick rugs, go for a low pile feature so that your child can play with his rolling toys trouble-free. Low pile is also easier to vacuum. Ideally, select area rugs with less than a third inch. No worries though. This kind is very sturdy and will survive the hyper-activities of kids these days.

The best materials for children's rugs are nylon and polypropylene. You need not worry about harmful fabrics, as most children's rugs are made of non-toxic materials safe for children's use.

Girls will surely love area rugs with Barbie designs while boys will cheer with delight with rugs designed with sports or action figures. These are just two examples of the many themed area rugs for children. Their rooms will never be the same again. And it will always be exciting with each new area rug to decorate their place.

Try decorating with area rugs for your child's room and you might just find yourself doing the same for the entire house. Who knows, area rugs can also be his constant companion as he goes into his teen years. The area rugs can grow and change with him as well.
