Colors added into a specific room can add warmth and even emotions. Making one color the focal point of the room can be spread around with vases, pillows, and even other little knickknacks around the space. This will draw the eye to different locations in one room.
Carrying your focus color into the next room will open your space and unify the rooms. The color in the next room will draw your eye to that room as a natural flow.
Area rugs are the first step to adding color into a room after the paint has been applied. It doesn't necessarily have to be the same color which you have painted the walls. Rugs will also make the room feel more cozy and warm to the touch.
Choosing an area rug for your room is the first step. Now you need to decide on the perfect color. As you can see, your color choice will be very important. The rug you choose may have an overall pattern, a pattern in the center with a border, a plain center with a border pattern, or just plain like a bamboo rug.
If you would like the area rug to be the focal point in the room try choosing a bold solid color. You then can focus on designing around the rugs color with the rest of the dcor choices. Even if you choose to have a solid colored rug in the room this doesn't mean the design of the rest of the room can't have pattern.
If you are adding a new area rug to a decorated room, it will need to be tone on tone to unite your dcor. If you are beginning your design with your new area rug, the color you choose for your walls, furniture and paintings should be the same color value as the rug.
Colors not only direct your eye and grab your attention; they create an emotional response in you. For instance, when a room like your bedroom uses a theme of light blue you get an uplifted, inspired feeling while a darker blue can make you feel peaceful and ready for rest.
If you want something in the middle try going with an orange theme. This will provide the playful aspect but also the warmth to make it seem inviting.
Here are a few colors and the basic feeling they can evoke when used as a focus color in your decor. Red denotes warmth and passion. Yellow is happy and bright. Orange is a mixture of red and yellow and is both playful and cooperative. Green is a cool color and also very earthy. Light blue is uplifting and dark blue is serene. This is a cool color. Light violet is spiritual while darker purple makes you feel regal.
Just by adding color to a room, you'll notice a huge difference. If you aren't into painting the walls at this time then just purchase a great designed area rug and place it in the room for the eyes to focus more on the floor rather than what's on the walls.
